Stomp Into the 90′s…

Growing up in UPTOWN, DC in the 90’s afforded me many opportunities to be around some of the FLYYest folks ever! As I look back, I remember the days of shopping with my older cousins and looking through their closets of high end fashions. I remember begging one of my cousins to let me carry her Marc Cross bag to school “just one time”, and at 9 years old, you already know that her answer was NO!!! I remember just playing in that same cousin’s Etienne Aigner Riding Boots in multiple colors, as well as, her floor-length leather trench coats in colors that matched her riding boots. I had another cousin who is just a year older than me, that had several pairs of Bamboo Earrings that she would wear to our Jr. High school two pairs at time, with rings on 8 fingers (until the day she decided to trade them all in at Nationals for just one big diamond ring!!!). I could sometimes wear one pair of her earrings while we were in school, as I was not allowed to wear the huge Door Knockers, at home. In high school, I was working in the mall at a store called Merry-Go-Round, and dressed like a girl, but I was still more or less a tomboy. However, I was still heavily into fashion. But when I got to Howard in 95, IT WAS ON!!! It was there that I was on my own budget and purchased my first MCM bag. It was $585 and I spent my entire paycheck for that purchase. I will never forget the feeling I had while I was on my way to Bloomingdales in White Flint Mall. I remember being more than excited as I rode the Red Line train back to Fort Totten Station to go home!!!

Since then, I’ve accumulated several original MCM handbags that I’ve collected from those years in the 90’s! If you follow me on Twitter (@FeelMyFlyy), then you know that I’ve been totally enamored with carrying my MCM Suzie Wong bag (paired with Timbs) for the past month. Weeeeelllll, I guess this little phase is gonna last a bit longer than I expected. This week, I purchased two more pieces, (while I was doing a little Vintage Shopping) to add to my already vast collection. See Below.

And yes, you may notice these bags are both white. I’m excited because I usually carry my Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM in Damier Azur from Memorial to Labor Day. Buuttt, something tells me that that will not be the case this year.

From the looks of things, it seems as though I am not the only one who can’t get enough of MCM! I found several pictures of celebrities rocking this brand too! I guess the old folks were right when they said: What Goes Around, Comes Around! This 90’s trend is back and it’s definitely here to stay.

BackPacking Around the…District

For the past several weeks, I’ve become increasingly irritated with my handbag selection. Now, don’t get me wrong, I Love Love Love a luggage sized purse, but my bag is so heavy and now my back hurts. This is probably why I keep carrying my Suzie Wong MCM because the ease of the cross-body styling allows me a “hands-free” purse carrying experience!

That said, I think I want to take a little hiatus from my signature bags, and carry a Backpack. And since I’m having a Major MCM Moment, of course I’ve found a backpack that I’d just love to have!!!

This is the Backpack that I want...Really Bad!!! It seems Big Sean Beat Me To It!

And So Did C. Breezy!!!

Now the backpack that you see featured in the above pictures is listed on bloomingdales.com for $850. However, Patricia Field did a collabo with MCM, and the backpack on her site is listed at $770.

But, I’m sure you guys would like to see what else is out there, so I’ve pictured a few backpacks from YOUR favorite brands, as well.

***Warning*** Although, backpacks may seem like a step in the “more casual” direction (i.e. lower pricing), please be clear: THEY’RE NOT!!! As you’ll see, the pricing is not only expensive; it exceeds the price you may have paid for the actual purse!
